This work began with an interest in exploring body, landscape, and artmaking. Similarly, I wanted to take a less traditional approach to my personal artmaking. Unlike normal, I had little concern for product with this project, and this work become much more about experience. Leaving my personal belongings behind I hiked to a distant location where I could be stripped of communication, clothes, and time. Using two limited edition relief prints I blindfolded myself with one and displayed the other one in front of me. Blinded to my surroundings I stood there displaying the print, until the cold air became warm and the frozen ground burnt. Below is a short gif displaying two seconds of the approximately 30 minute experience. I then redressed myself and hiked back.
Interested in ideas of:
Art created by body - Body becoming art
Art about landscape - Art in landscape
Display of artwork - Display of body
Art about Utah culture - Body as a product of Utah culture
Art vulnerable - Body vulnerable
Observations:
Noise seemed to grow louder than quitter then louder
Aware of cold, slowly grew warmer and warmer
Wind was far more noticeable
The temptation to remove the blindfold diminished significantly over time
Gunshots in the distance,
Constant barking of dogs
School bells
Sound of snow melting and being absorbed by the earth.
