The idea

the result.- "Body Count"
This piece was made with pieces of 2x4. pages taken from The Bible where God actually kills people. except for the page where "10" is which is the only page that speaks of Satan killing anyone, and it was by God's command even then. The number "2821364" is the number of times God is officially recorded actually killing someone himself. while the "10" represents the number of times Satan is officially recorded actually killing someone himself. Beyond this i added gold colored nails to represent the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

This is not meant to criticize Christian beliefs. but to inform Christians about what exactly they believe in.

If I were to attempt to do this again, I would use better paints, not spray paint, and design the numbers better, possibly also carefully highlight the verses which speak of the murders on new otherwise unmarked bible pages, I would also wrap the bible pages all the way arouind it and make it much larger, a real installation including all the pages in the bible which mention God killing someone. Instead of hanging on a wall it would be made into a monolith. I would also like to install it upside down at least at first to drip red colored epoxy all around it, so when its placed upright, It will look like blood moving upwards. And obviously use much larger golden nails. possibly golden street number signs for the larger number, and white ones for the smaller number.

Show Proposal - Dakota Frazier

Art and Fear - I have always been interested in what artists fear when creating a piece.  What are the key factors that force an artist to step back and question themselves.  So running on this idea I am curious as how artists of many spectrums would grasp one fear of theirs and illustrate it in a piece of work.

Therapy Hour- I think it is really comical that we always refer to our class as a sort of therapy but, I think there is some real truth in the statement because it seems that we all are or have had to work through some hard things in life and have used art as part of the means to achieve some sort of piece in ourselves. I think it would be interesting to do a show along these lines. Art as a coping mechanism.

Diagram of an Artist- I really loved some of those self-portrait exercises we did and would love to further explore the whole idea of diagrams one's self.

Outside of town, in at least two areas that I'm aware of, there are dump sites, unofficial areas where people dump construction materials, slabs of broken cement, old Christmas trees, tree trimmings, dead animals, and miscellaneous garbage. What I would like to do is collect items from these areas and bring them into the Alt Space, make it look like a dump site essentially. Possibly also take photographs of the actual dump sites, landscape photographs to show the contrast between the human landscape made of garbage and death caused by humans, and the natural landscape.

I want this to be conceptual in raising awareness of how unusual and wrong this is. To make a comparison about how the garbage shouldn't be in a gallery, just as it shouldn't be out in nature. To create a discussion about how maybe one of these dump sites might actually start. Who is the first person to dump garbage in a spot, and then why do others see the garbage and instead of cleaning it up, they add to it.

The stuff we gather could either be arranged in a manner of random disarray to mimic the actual dump sites, or it could be organized into a more of a sculptural piece. I'd like to bring some kind of dead thing in too, not sure how that would work since I don't know if a rotting corpse would be very appealing to viewers, even if it would get the point across pretty well. but maybe just some bones, I think that would be just as effective.

This would cost virtually nothing, other than if we printed photographs or made other art based on the dump sites to mount on the walls.

another thought I had was to maybe do paintings on the garbage that we bring in, either graffiti style, or traditional.

there are a lot of ways we could go with this, but its a good option that everyone could participate in, and with our busy schedules, this could be done in about 1 or 2 days if we worked on it for a few hours each day.

Show name: Balance (pending)

Purpose:  An exploration into our natural ability to organize and balance objects.

Setup: Cover the floor in cardboard to provide protection to the tile. Place a variety of rocks ranging from watermelon size to marble. Have a similar setup to the "#Blessed" show where participants can use a hashtag to add a photo of their rock stack/creation to a feed.

Participants will be able to enter and build thier own cairns and document the results.

Show name: "Faces of Creativity"

A display of our self portraits.

Art as Commodity- Brandee Watters

For this project I made 25 prints and traded them with random people. For the most part people did not want to trade up, so to speak. The majority of the people I traded with simply traded me with whatever they had on hand. There were a few people who actually got into the trading and found me something valuable of theirs to trade with. However, those people were few are far between. Below are a couple examples of items I received in my trading processes.

Art Show Ideas- Nick Nuttall

ART SHOW IDEA ONE: STORY PATHS

This show is to illustrate how stories can be abstracted by the involvement of many, and how that abstraction takes shape. Each of these exhibits are meant to take up one wall in the alt/space.
Part One o the Show: One person writes a rough story outline. The next person draws out that storyline in comic book form. Another person colors in the artwork. Then one last person adds in dialogue balloons based on what they can see in the picture. Noone can give input to the next person in the process. Displayed on the eastern wall.

The finished result is displayed with each step presented. The outline. The penciled/inked art. The colored art. Then a colored page with dialogue added in.

5 or 6 pictures based on a short story. Everyone reads a specific short story, and then presents a work of art that can be mounted on a wall depicting a moment they liked or one that stood out to them. Results are displayed on the northern wall.

The pieces are displayed in two rows of three, with explanations beneath each piece. Then the short story is probably mounted besides these pieces, but in larger text on a large posterboard.

We write one short story together. Everyone picks a different medium to tell that story in. THe results are displayed on the eastern wall.

ART SHOW IDEA TWO: ALTERED SENSES
This show uses elements of eliminating senses, but instead suggests altering them. There is a smaller fourth wall in the alt/space. I’m not sure exactly how to space this out, but I would use all five senses to produce this art.

An example of something I could do: instead of go through life as usual, I would go through one day (or a period of time) listening to music everywhere I went and through everything I did. My sense of hearing isn’t totally gone, it’s just altered. Or walking around with sunglasses of a certain color on. The world will be perceived differently. Go for one day with something on the edge of your nose that you have to smell for a certain period of time. Mess with your sense of taste by eating a certain candy or vegetable with everything else you eat. I’m shooting a lot of ideas out, but the idea is to document the experience and present it in an interesting way that helps attendees understand it. We can divide each into sections. Make the room like a giant face. What if we displayed some things on the ceiling? That way we would have (technically speaking) five walls!

Alternate Point of View

Self Portrait - Clint Stevens

I stacked items found in my driveway for 15 minutes. if they fell, i started my timer over and kept stacking until i made it the full 15 minutes.

outside of the 15 minute stacking time, i also painted an owl, and later on made a more permanent home for the plant.

once the sculpture was stable and hadn't fallen over, i drizzled epoxy all over the piece and allowed it to drip and then applied two cans of clear polyurethane to hold further seal the new object.

when trying to load it on my car the piece fell apart. but i do plan on putting it back together as close to the original as possible, but also look for ways to make it more structurally sound so that it can be transported.

Altered Perspective - Clint Stevens

I created an endurance art piece by planking over a black board nude while my wife poured extremely thick white paint all over my body, the paint then dripped from my body onto the board, I lasted 5:23 seconds before my core gave out and i couldnt hold myself up anymore. This was an experiment in showing physical strength visually, without showing the body.

Art As Commodity - Clint Stevens

I cut, shaped and polished various stones into rectilinear shapes, I then found some discarded relief prints from the recycling bin in the print studio and cut them into 3x3 squares. I then taped the stone to the card and traded them for various items. from a post-it note with a name written on it, to an old camera, I didnt have any instruction to give those who I was trading, I wanted to see how others would value my work without knowing anything about how much time and effort goes into creating such an object.

The trade.

Walking a Line - Clint Stevens

I walked a path, back and forth, winding around an ant mound rather than going through it and then slowly stacking 1 rock at the end of my path every time I passed. I wanted to focus on life, how it is repetitive and how we should constantly be trying to learn from others, even those we may feel are below us. Over time, we may achieve something great because of their influence.

Self Portrait - Dakota Frazier

This is a self portrait that is trying to portray the darker side of me, if you will.  It is a quick representation on my self outlook at this current time.  I know it is short but the poem added in that plays in tandem with the stop motion is one of my favorite poems and the snippet that I chose to play along with it I feel is the closest to amplifying how I feel.

Now bare with me being this is my first ever made stop motion "film" (I would hardly consider it one) but I feel with my limit knowledge it turned out pretty much how I imagined.
