This is a photo of my grandma, Beverly. I never knew her. My mother never had a high opinion of her, so I barely knew any stories about her--what I did have were old, negative memories that my mother used for sympathy. Now, I have entered a point in my life where I can not only learn and express more about myself, but also learn about my history and my family. This specific photo was taken before Bev was diagnosed with cancer, and it was her last big trip. She lived in Utah and then later Wyoming, and didn't leave much from either of those places. This was a trip she took all the way to New York with my aunt Ange. Here, she’s in front of the Saks building that she was excited to visit, but wasn't actually able to enter. My aunt took the photo, while her husband had to drive around the block in the meantime because there wasn't any parking nearby.
