(I started this by just writing down words and phrases that came to mind when I thought about my personal art-making philosophy. I was intending to expand upon them, but I found that the simple lines had a flow that I liked, so I turned them into a sort of poem. Enjoy!)
Manifesto
Go big, go small, go home.
Flux, change, reuse, recycle.
Always be ready,
Keep a sketchbook, take pictures, write it down.
An artist is someone who makes art
So you might as well claim the title.
Create humility AND confidence.
It’s not about being the best in the room, unless you’re the only one in the room.
Make mistakes, keep them, don’t hide your strokes.
Change as quickly as you can think,
Adding and discovering.
Embody, resonate.
Not all ideas, beliefs, thoughts,
Deserve equal respect, you do not have to consider Nazis, you do not have to respect hate.
Push boundaries, yours and others.
Communicate and convey.
Give and take.
Feel, experience.
Read.
Listen.
Work and work and work enough and work harder.
Passion, ambition,
Fiery, a force of nature.
Art is never something out of nothing, it is something out of everything
Consume, collect, convey
Hoard ideas and images and life and supplies
Make art with energy, emotion, presence.
Make art that looks the way music feels.
Make art even when no one else cares.

Jess,
Thank you for sharing. I think this a great way to start this course. We examine what we believe and how we think before we apply it. Applying it is an extension of those fundamental beliefs.
