Photographer: Yousuf Karsh
This is a portrait of Winston Churchill by Yousuf Karsh and one of the most well known portraits in photography. After Churchill had just given a speech, Karsh was given only two minutes to take a portrait. Churchill whipped out his infamous cigar and started chomping down on it. Karsh gave him an ashtray to set the cigar aside but Churchill ignored. So, Karsh waited for a while then made sure all of his equipment was set up properly then went up to Churchill and snatched the cigar away from him without permission. By the time the photographer got back to his camera, Churchill had a stern and annoyed look on his face and that’s when Karsh decided to take the photo.
