Chloe Gwilliam Creative Future

I'll be a children’s book illustrator. I'll illustrate for a company but also create my own picture books. I will hopefully have other people to work with. I want to be able to enjoy my job, but get work done quickly, which is hard since I’m a perfectionist. I want my art to look really good, but still get it done by the deadline, so I’d have to learn to compromise quality for speed some of the time. I’ll work from home. I’ll need to have a flexible schedule so I can spend time with loved ones. I'll get up early to work. I’d rather be given projects and a deadline rather than certain hours of the day to work. I’ll probably work during school hours and at night because being a mom is important to me. I'll need vacation days in the summer to go on trips with my family.

My community will consist of social media artist friends, real-life artist friends, and my family. I could bounce ideas off of artist friends. I could take inspiration from my friends and family.

Ideally, my husband will have a job and income too. I’d need enough money to support my family. I’ll shoot for a yearly income of $90,000 to support my family.

I'll have a large family, so I would have to support them. Also, they could support me. I could definitely get inspiration for art from them. My family will be my first priority. I'll always do what’s best for them. I'll need to make enough money to support my future family.

I am also interested in elementary education. I may get an Associate's Degree in Education from Snow, or a minor in education and major in art from SUU. I may want to only teach elementary school, or teach elementary school as well as freelance art.

I have to research the likelihood of getting an illustration job in Utah, as well as research the requirements for the job. I should talk to real illustrators and ask how they got their jobs, their experience, and what working is like. To get enough money and take care of my family, I'd have to get a well-paying job. I'll research if those exist in Utah.

I’m going to complete the AFA at Snow. I’ll research application due dates and programs for SUU, BYU, UVU, or USU. I’ll visit each of these schools to check them out and decide which is the best fit for me. I might complete my Bachelor’s of Illustration at SUU.

Regardless of whether I go back to school for art, I will practice it on my own. I will use the internet as a resource and practice drawing daily.

I’ll need to develop a network. I’ll have to work on my social media presence, especially Instagram. I’ll have to add artwork there frequently and rack up followers. I'll post illustrations and animations. I’ll have to meet people in the business of illustration and develop relationships with them. I am already friends with a lot of skilled artists. I'll maintain those relationships. I'll try to meet more people in the art world.

In terms of having a studio, I wouldn't need more than a desk, so I could have a small room in my house for a studio, or even a corner of my bedroom. I'll need to start saving up for an Ipad, nice laptop, and eventually a Wacom tablet.

I'll need to develop healthy sleeping patterns now so I can maintain them when I'm older and be able to manage my time well.
