INT. BATHROOM- BRO RANDALL'S BASEMENT
Elder Nuttall brushes his teeth in the mirror. Flosses. Uses
mouthwash. Brushes off his retainer to put it in his mouth.
INT. BEDROOM- ROOM 308N- THE SUITES
Nick Nuttall does push-ups. He rolls over after one set and
stares directly at the camera.
INT. BEDROOM- BRO RANDALL'S BASEMENT
Elder Nuttall falls into bed, and stares up. Directly at the
camera. We hear Elder Franco start snoring, and Nuttall
still looks up at the camera. He's numb to that by now.
INT. BEDROOM- ROOM 308N- THE SUITES
Nick Nuttall climbs up into bed and rolls into place. The
angle is from above so that he too can look into the camera.
He likes to do that.
INT. BEDROOM- BRO RANDALL'S BASEMENT
Nuttall begins to get bothered witn Elder Franco and pulls
the covers up over himself.
INT. BEDROOM- ROOM 308N- THE SUITES
Nick does the same. Pulls the blanket over his face. As he
does so the screen goes BLACK. There will now be two
screens, side by side.
INT. BLACK SIDE-BY-SIDE
On the left side, NUTTALL sits up quickly, facing the
screen. On the right screen, NICK sits up, facing to the
right. Then he turns to the screen.
NUTTALL
Are you?
NICK
Sh!
NUTTALL
What?
NICK
What are you doing here?
NUTTALL
What are you doing here?
NICK
I'm doing an art project.
NUTTALL
That's a little weird.
NICK
What do you mean weird?
NUTTALL
I just don't feel like this is
very accessible.
NICK
What do you know about accessible?
NUTTALL
Well, I am a missionary.
NICK
Point taken.
NUTTALL
Who are you?
NICK
Returned missionary. Serving as
ward mission leader.
NUTTALL
Ah, from the future.
NICK
Yes. I'm Nick Nuttall from March
4th, 2015.
NUTTALL
No. I'm Elder Nick Nuttall from
March 4th. 2014. What's this art
project?
NICK
I'm supposed to do a self-portrait
over time. One year ago from
today.
NUTTALL
Interesting. I should have known.
NICK
No, you shouldn't have. This
didn't happen to me on my mission.
I didn't have visions of the

future. Regardless, how was your
day?
NUTTALL
Well, I put my structured program
into practice.
NICK
For personal study?
NUTTALL
Yeah.
NICK
I remember that being a really
good morning, but I can't rmemeber
what I learned.
NUTTALL
You can't-
NICK
It was a year ago. I've learned a
lot since then.
NUTTALL
Do you still keep up a study
journal?
NICK
Yes. Not very well, but I try.
Most of the important stuff ends
up in my real journal.
NUTTALL
Okay, very good. How's it going
with girls?
NICK
I'd rather... not. It's just hard
and stuff. I'm supposed to date,
but...
NUTTALL
You doubt yourself?
There is an awkward silence as Nuttall looks a little
ashamed. Not horribly, just kind of embarassed. Nick can
recognize that in himself so he wants them to move forward.
NICK
What else have you been doing?
3.
NUTTALL
I listened to the Olive Press.
NICK
Truman G. Madsen?
NUTTALL
Yeah.
NICK
That's a good talk.
NUTTALL
Just wondering... I say that I'll
listen to talks by general
authorities post-mission. Do I
actually do that? Cause I know on
the mission we say a lot of things
that we want to do but never
really get around to doing.
NICK
We do. We've got, like 40 years
worth of general conference on our
iPhone-
NUTTALL
We got an iPhone?
NICK
Yes. It's sick. And time
consuming.
NUTTALL
Back to Truman's talk... Do you
think our mission was symbolic in
some way?
NICK
It was.
NUTTALL
How so? I'm in the middle of it. i
don't think I"ve got that 20/20
view you've got.
NICK
You remember how you would rag on
Utah mormons?
Nuttall pauses because he doesn't want to say anything rash.
NICK (CONT'D)
Don't worry about it. Anyways.
YOu're going to learn not to judge

a lot of people. Even those
members who are kind of jerks to
other people. Us getting sent to
Utah was the best thing for our
lives because it crucified that
hatred. That anger. Those
judgments.
NUTTALL
There's lots of good people here.
Do you remember the Kremers?
NICK
I love the Kremers!. I visited
them in January. I even e-mail
Steven once in a while.
NUTTALL
Wow. That's cool. Anyways. He gave
us a ride to Wal-Mart and stuff.
Went to Leatherbys.
NICK
Is that the day of the cookie
cake?
NUTTALL
Yes. And it was GLORIOUS.
NICK
How did you survive Leatherby's
AND a cookie cake in one day.
NUTTALL
I SHARED the cookie cake.
NICK
O yeah...
NUTTALL
I also got an e-mail from Tana
Beagly today. You remember her?
NICK
She's home now.
NUTTALL
But she just got out!
NICK
She had some medical problems.
Then her brother had some. I don't

know if or when she's going back
into the field.
NUTTALL
O, well... that's a bummer.
NICK
It'll feel like a bigger bummer
after you've done two years of
this. People don't seem to notice.
NUTTALL
And why should they notice?
Remember that move, Mountain of
theLord?? The saints who built
that temple may never receive
worldly credit, but they did it to
worship the Lord. That should be
the most important thing to you.
NICK
It is.. mostly. I just don't feel
like they understand.
NUTTALL
What?
NICK
Missionary work. They don't know,
or understand. It's hard.
NUTTALL
It's also lots of fun.
NICK
Yeah. I guess that kind of gets
drowned out in the pain at times.
NUTTALL
Do you remember the nerf war
today? We had everyone set up, and
you asked if Elder Mendez was
playing. They said no one had
asked him, then we said-
NICK/NUTTALL (UNISON)
"People will not likely change
unless they are invited to do so."
The two laugh a little bit about it.
NUTTALL
Those guys love you.
6.
NICK
Yeah. That was a good war.
NUTTALL
Ross built some epic barricades.
NICK
And elder Mendez scremaing was
pretty funny.
NUTTALL
We did our best to get out by 6pm.
Didn't entirely succeeed, but-
NICK
I think we're disconnecting now.
NUTTALL
We followed through on our plans
and were blessed for it.
NICK
You're going to forget this ever
happened.
NUTTALL
Have a new potential investigator
who gave us her phone number.
As Nuttall recites his lines, he grows more tired, yawning,
and his side of the screen begins to fade into darkness.
NICK
I hope you make it.
NUTTALL
That's always cool when they do
that.
NICK
Like I made it.
NUTTALL
Unfortunately, trying to do the
laundry between 10am and 6pm
hasn't worked out.
NICK
Eventually.
Nick turns to the left, facing the right side of the screen
again. He's smiling, kind of glad to have had this
conversation. It's lifted his spirits. Then he lies back
down.

INT. BEDROOM- BRO RANDALL'S BASEMENT
C/up on the cell phone. 6:04. As it turns to 6:05 the screen
suddenly lights up and starts playing music. Then Frank
Sinatra's "Buon Natale" starts blasting from Nuttall's iPod
across the room. From underneath the bed, we watch Nuttall's
feet hit the floor as he goes to deactivate each alarm.
INT. BEDROOM- ROOM 308N- THE SUITES
Nick's watch reads: 6:09. Then 6:10. And nothing happens.
Nick is happily asleep. Content to live in his own world.
The land he is in now.
